New York: A new study by the University of Memphis has found that celebrity-backed posts on Instagram can actually influence teenagers to adopt certain lifestyle choices.
The study conducted by the international research group surveyed over 100 teenage boys and girls from different high schools in Tennessee, United States.
They were asked about their social media use and exposing themselves to celebrity-driven posts, how much they admire celebrities and how these exposures affect them.
As per the survey results, it is being seen that exposure to celebrity-backed posts on social media can have a direct effect on how teenagers are adopting certain behaviors. Around 69 percent of those surveyed admitted that exposure to such posts can actually motivate them to try out the same activities, while 94 percent feel that they could actually learn how to be popular by following celebrities.
For example, if young boys are admiring howworth a celebrity is having and their life and posts photos of lavish holidays on Instagram it can motivate other teenagers to emulate this behavior in order to keep up with the newest social trends, says the lead researcher.
The study found that teenagers who are exposed to celebrity posts on social media platforms feel more "connected" with them and admire how they live their life through these posts. However, there is no scientific evidence available to suggest how long this influence lasts after the sponsorship post it over.
